Final Touch

Here's the 2nd lamp for the living room. Now that there's light, it's finally done. Yeah!

The end results

Hurray! I have all the painting done, all the floor (including the final finishing pieces) done, the sofa and love seat in place, and the tables as well! The tables arrived exactly on time on last Saturday at noon. Now all I have to do is find a lamp for the one table and that's IT!!

Yes, it was worth the painting mess, the wait for the floor materials on back order to come in, the DUST and noise of the floor installation - all of it! I now have essentially a new house! It looks so different!

"New" living room

Furniture has arrived!

The long awaited sofa and love seat came in the front door yesterday morning! What can I say? They look great, it was all worth it (I think!)!!! You've seen the photos already...

I found (and purchased) tables today at Macy's. A coffee table and 2 end tables to be delivered on the 25th of this month! While I was there I found a rug that I really like (there's also a photo of it). It has enough "pattern" in it to be interesting, but it's not so busy that it would fight with the print in the furniture. Sounds impossible, doesn't it...but take a look and let me know what you think!!

Stay tuned...we're almost finished!

The floor is all but finished

Well, after all the ripping up of carpet, cutting of the pieces of the flooring, measuring, pounding, dust, dust and MORE dust; the floor is in! Except for the bits they had to reorder - some "quarter rounds", and some trim pieces here and there. That's all supposed to be in next week sometime.

Anyway, the floor is really beautiful! Why, oh why didn't I do this ages ago?? I spent today, and part of yesterday putting the dining room area back together. The blue plates are all rehung, I bought a corner shelfing unit, and got all the furniture moved back in. I even re-hung some pictures. The rest will come in time.

The living room is still quite bare. The sofa and love seat will be delivered on Tuesday morning. Then I can contemplate what will go into what location in the living room. I still need to find end tables and a coffee table that I like; as well as an additional lamp.

Funny thing, I said I wanted to have this done before the snow flew...it's supposed to snow (yes, here in the valley) TONIGHT!!

Floor installation Part I

The flooring installers showed up on time this morning. It was left up to them (by the store I'm contracting with) to give me the semi-bad news that the stair treads had not shown up on Friday or Saturday as expected. :(

So with that out of the way, they got started on as much as they could do today with what they had. The carpeting, as you can see, is now gone from the living and dining rooms. The living room is about 3/4 finished with the flooring. The warehouse gave the installers the wrong type of trim, so that had to go back to get the correct stuff. Then...it was found that there was an uneven patch in the dining room floor, and a damaged spot in the living room due to over-watering plants. (Note to self: confine "real" plants to kitchen from now on!)

The installers (a man about my age, and a woman of about the same age) left at about 3:15pm, promising to return tomorrow. The carpeting still needs to be removed from the half bath and the stairways, trim has to be acquired, and the patches in the living room and dining room need to dry before they can be covered with the laminate. There is a LARGE fan aimed at the dining room floor, going full blast - I've been asked to let it run all night "if I can".

I did get to the store after the installers left. Leann, my salesperson, was not in today; but I talked to another lady who looked up the order and said the stair treads came in today. I've heard that one before; so we'll see what shows up tomorrow with the installers!

All of the pictures below were taken when the people left for lunch today. I'm very pleased with the way it's looking - so far!!

FINALLY, something appears to be happening on the flooring! The installers are scheduled to come on Monday morning!!! HURRAY...I can't wait (to get my house back to "normal")!!!

Sep 27, 2008

I'm getting tired of living with the house so "displaced". But, I guess this is part of the down-side of replacing stuff!
The sales lady's supposed to call me Monday afternoon for an update on the status of the stair treads we're waiting for. HOPEFULLY, we'll be able to set up an installation date for next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed....

Q & A

Thanks, Andy for your interest!!!
The swatches are of the upholstery of the new sofa and love seat.
No, I haven't changed the door to the back yard - yet. I needs to be done, but I can only do so much at a time!!

Day 11 (?)

All the painting was finished as of last Friday evening. I'm done with drop cloths, paint buckets, rollers, brushes, and ladders...at least for now!
I LOVE the paint job/color scheme! It's so pristine, I don't want to put anything back up on the walls. Actually, I'm not going to put anything else up on the walls - for now! I figure I need to try to wait for the floors to go in, and the furniture to be delivered. That way I can make better decisions about what will go where; as there's certainly no obligation to put the same stuff in the same places!
The news from the store is that most of the materials for the floor have been received - we're waiting for stair treads that are on back order. Of course! Worst case scenario seems to be that it'll be in by 22SEP, they're "trying" to rush it for me. Then we have to set an installation date. Sales person says it should be done in 1-2 days...we'll see. Paint job took 5 days, but the floor people don't have to worry about vaulted ceilings (just stair treads)!

Day 4

Okay, maybe this'll come together soon. I love the colors, both individually and the way they look together. It's hard to tell from these pictures, but this painting stage should be finished by Friday!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but it'll be good to get my kitchen put back together!

Now, if that darn flooring order would get here...

Day 4

End of day 3

These painters ( 2 of them) have been painting their hearts out for 3 days now! I think everything now has at least one coat, so they will probably be finishing up tomorrow? All this priming and sanding out of rough spots and trim work...I'm SO glad I didn't tackle this on my own! I would've lost it just taping around the edges, let alone vaulted ceilings, and all the little fussy stuff!

I found this company on Angie's List, and a very lucky find it was, too. Anyone out there aware of Angie's List? It's an on-line website ( www.angieslist.com of course) and it lists ALL sorts of trades people and handy men, and just about any type of service you can think of. You plug in your zip code, and get local listings. Customers (both happy and un-happy ones) can enter comments on the people they've hired. You get comments on punctuality, quality of work, prices, etc. It's a great place to start. They list companies that members have entered, the companies don't list themselves or pay a fee to be listed. Only down-side is the membership fee; and it's not exorbitant, but it is annual. Might be worth looking into if anyone else is thinking of disrupting their lives like this! :<) I've looked up companies there several times now.

Tomorrow will be the unveiling of the colors!!! Stay tuned...

Monday, September 8, 2008

This how the first day ended. The morning was spent taping and prepping for primers, etc. The beginnings of the first coat happened in the afternoon.

For all you Flickr members who were told the colors were a secret...I guess the cat's pretty much out of the bag now! The beige shade needs to be "punched up" a little, but the other colors are good! Especially when the second coat goes on and the coverage is better. The photos almost make it look like wood paneling.

Painters return at 0900 tomorrow!

Ready for paint

OK, by back hurts and I'm tired; but the place is as ready for the painters as I can get it. I just hope it's good enough! I took a lot of Really boring photos of bare naked, age stained walls this morning. Just how exciting can it get!?! Here are a few of them (if you're truly interested in any more of the same, they're posted on Flickr - if you need an invite, let me know).

Darn teal door frames and woodwork upstairs are going to take at least 3 coats of paint to be "right"!

Saturday, September 6, 2008

Hi, Readers!
This is how my condo looked when I decided to do this historical re-model. The walls are sort of two-tone multipurpose greens, the carpet pale pink in the living room, gray in the dining room and loft area.

I'm having everything painted except the bathrooms and bedrooms and ceilings. The white tiled areas will remain as is; but the carpeting will be taken out and laminate "wood" floors installed. I'm also buying a new sofa and love seat. Tables and area rugs to follow shortly thereafter.

The paint, floors, sofa, and love seat are picked out, deposits put down...furniture and flooring being ordered! The painters come on Monday, September 8!!! I'm so excited - or I was - now I'm tired! I've spent today removing art work from walls downstairs, packing up bric-a-brak from mantles, and most other flat surfaces downstairs. Not to mention, taking down lace curtains, clearing kitchen counters, and generally moving things out of the way for Monday! Tomorrow I'll tackle the loft, and the entertainment center. Things are starting to happen! I'm excited about having all this done, an having a cozy "new" home for the winter!!

Look next for photos of the "bare" house in wait of new and exciting colors on the walls!!!
